School holiday

A list of the school holidays is issued at the beginning of the school year. Parents are asked to abide by the holiday dates and refrain from taking their children out during the term. Regular attendance is essential.

Classroom learning is an ongoing process, and every effort should be made to schedule family vacations to coincide with the school calendar. It is particularly important that all students are in class at the beginning and end of each term.

Absence

Students who must be absent from school because of unavoidable or family reasons must seek the prior permission of the Principal for any such intended absence and must take responsibility to ensure that the student catches up on work he/she has missed.

Communication between parents and teachers

We encourage open dialogue between parents and teachers. Any concerns must first be discussed with the class teacher.

If your child is absent from school, please notify us by email or phone call.
A report on your child’s progress is issued at the end of every term. End of term assessments are held at the end of Terms 1 & 3. Grades for Term 2 are based on a continual assessment for the term.

There is a “Meet and Greet” session of all parents and the class teacher in September. Individual parent/teacher meetings are usually held in January.

We ask parents to inform us of anything unusual occurring out of school, as this may have a bearing on their child’s behaviour or performance in school. Your information will be kept confidential.

If you are travelling abroad, please inform the office.

RECORDS

Contact information

It is critical that your contact information is updated regularly to include any change of e-mail address and telephone number so that you or an emergency contact can be contacted quickly in the event of illness or an emergency.

Eye Examination

All students are required to have an eye examination before entering school. Please submit a written report from a qualified optician.

Medical Records

A copy of your child’s records is required on admission to St. Nicholas Primary School. It is essential we have updated inoculation records for all students to share with the Ministry of Health when requested. Should your child require medicine during the day, it must be left in the office, along with written instructions. Asthmatic students must leave an inhaler in the office and anyone with severe allergies must leave an EpiPen.

International Students

Those students who do not have an Antiguan passport must request a letter from the school stating that they have been accepted to St.Nicholas Primary. This letter should be submitted to the Ministry of Education, and then to Immigration Department.
